About CLS

A surgeon who learned the law

Clinical Law Simplified was started by Dr. Anupam Jaiswal, an orthopaedic surgeon and hospital founder in Pune, to give doctors the legal preparation that medical training leaves out.

Why CLS exists

Dr. Anupam Jaiswal is an orthopaedic surgeon and hospital founder in Pune, and is completing his law degree (LLB). Years in theatre and in hospital administration showed him the same pattern again and again: good clinicians, giving good care, left exposed by how that care was written down, said or explained.

Very few of them had been taught how a record is read after a complaint. Most met medical law for the first time through a notice.

CLS is his answer: short videos for every doctor, and The Ledger, a growing library of practical kits, SOPs, audits and briefs written for Indian practice.

The doctrine

One simple equation

Clinical competence+Legal preparedness=Professional resilience
The five doctrines

How The Ledger reads a record

Every episode and every kit is built on five ideas. Together they explain why good care can still be hard to defend, and what changes that.

  • D1

    Judicial primacy

Court interpretation outweighs clinical intention. What the record shows is what counts.

  • D2

    Documentation over intention

What you meant to do does not exist in law. What you documented does.

  • D3

    Delta-T vulnerability

The gap between a clinical event and its documentation is where cases are won and lost.

  • D4

    Forensic reality

Every clinical action leaves a legal artefact. Always.

  • D5

Standard of care vs standard of proof

Meeting the clinical standard is not the same as meeting the legal standard of proof.

Our boundaries

What CLS is, and what it isn't

Credibility matters more than reach. These lines guide every video and every kit.

CLS is

  • Education in medico-legal process, written for practising doctors
  • Practical tools: templates, checklists, audits and briefs
  • Calm and specific, never built on fear
  • Focused on accurate, contemporaneous, honest records

CLS is not

  • Legal advice or legal representation
  • A promise that any doctor is “notice-proof” or immune from claims
  • A campaign against patients, lawyers, courts, insurers or regulators
  • Ever a reason to backdate, alter or fabricate a record

If you are facing an active complaint, notice or proceeding, please don't act on general content. Don't change records or statements. Speak to qualified legal counsel in your jurisdiction directly.
